An Important Message to Consumers:

Why not make a suggestion to the manager of your favorite chain supermarket that they waive slotting fees for small, local producers, to give these businesses a chance to grow, creating jobs and helping the local economy come back stronger?
At the same time, you'll also get more local, healthy choices for your
dining enjoyment, if you do!

About the Directory

This is a unique, one stop gourmet shopping guide consisting of most of the specialty food products produced in New England, which aren't likely to ever be found in large, traditional supermarkets. It doesn't mean these products aren't good enough, just that small producers can't afford to pay the large fees required to have their products in large chain stores. Whether you're a consumer, a retail buyer or a Chef, this is your opportunity to "Buy Local", support small businesses and eat healthy. There is no charge to be listed on this website. If you know of a small producer who should be added to this directory, just send the producer's contact information to us at
info@newenglandsspecialtyfoods.com, and we'll add it.

Why is it so Difficult to Find Artisan Food Producers?

It's very simple. Today most people live on a budget, and the less expensive products often need to be purchased simply because they cost less. This makes it very difficult for small specialty foods producers, since small batches made from much smaller quantities of healthy ingredients and custom packaging must always result in higher selling prices. That principle, applied to all costs and expenses, always results in considerably higher retail prices. This results in slower sales, which results in larger stores not wanting to carry them, & inadequate sales in smaller stores due to the lack of merchandising and promotions, not to mention the fact that distributors have no interest in unproven products.
